Ledang included personnel from the Malacca branch of the Solid Waste
Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (PPSPPA).

This was done because Muar and Ledang districts are now under the
jurisdiction of the Malacca PPSPPA, following its agreement with the
Johorean concessionaire for solid waste management, SWM Environment Sdn
Bhd.
Malacca SWM manager Hisham Hussin said 30 personnel including senior officials from both companies were involved in the programme.
"The main focus of the monthly cleansing programme are housing and recreational areas, which are not under the local authorities.
"We utilise heavy machinery such as trucks with water sprinklers, tractors and excavators," he said after the programme at Taman Bakariah, here.
The event is a corporate social responsibility programme which involves cleaning drains of waste and soil and grass-cutting.
Hisham said a similar programme held at Taman Pagoh Jaya here found that the clogged drains were caused by the overgrown grass.
He said the situation in Taman Bakariah, also in Muar, was equally disheartening as the back lanes of homes were littered with rubbish.
"There were also old refrigerators, washing machines, furniture and computers piled up, and trash clogging the drains in the area."
"We believe the neighbourhood was used as a dumpsite before the items were sold to scrap metal buyers," he said.
